The Church of San Michele is a symbol for the people of Fonzaso, which is why the hike to the Covolo of San Michele is the most classic route.
The length of the route is 2 km, the estimated travel time is an hour and a half: it may seem strange to use this time to travel a few miles, but the little road that leads to the hermitage is very steep.
The walk begins in the town of Fonzaso, where you can park your car. It heads west along the road that leads to the chapel of St. Anna; this trail is characterized by the presence of some capitals notched in the walls, some of which are dedicated to the cult of Saint Antonio. Without reaching the chapel as soon as you cross a group of houses take the wooded trail that climbs about 50 meters and then again towards the houses; from here you can see the terraces for the cultivation of vines that characterize the landscape of Fonzaso.
From here the walk to Covolo di San Michele becomes very steep until reaching the little Church perched on the bare rock.
